The dry, cold winter months deplete evergreen plants of moisture causing the leaves to turn brown and crack.  Some of the plants susceptible to this include rhododendron, hollies, azaleas, andromeda and boxwoods.   To prevent winter burn and dehydration, an antidessicant spray is applied on shrubs in November and January.
